Bryan Jones is the owner, instructor, and consultant at Flight Check Solutions, LLC. A multi-engine, instrument-rated flight instructor, he brings nearly four decades of aviation experience to his students and clients. With 3,750 total flight hours—including over 2,585 hours logged in the RV-8—Bryan has been providing experimental transition training, aircraft checkouts, and test flight services since 2001.

As an EAA Flight & Technical Advisor and FFI formation flight lead, he has flown all available models in the Van’s RV series. His background also includes ownership and maintenance of four aircraft, construction of an RV-8, multiple engine overhauls, and has conducted initial test flights for multiple experimental amateur-built airplanes. These experiences give him unique insight into both the flying qualities and the mechanical details that matter most to builders and buyers.

Bryan has been providing primary, instrument, multi-engine and tailwheel instruction to students for more than 24 years. He also holds an FAA-issued Letter of Deviation Authority (LODA), authorizing him to provide compensated flight training in experimental amateur-built aircraft. He combines practical instruction with safety-focused mentoring, ensuring that each pilot is prepared for the unique demands of experimental aircraft operations and ownership.

In addition to his aviation credentials, Bryan is a licensed mechanical engineer in Texas, with 38 years of professional experience in power generation, rotating machinery, and systems reliability. This technical foundation complements his flight instruction, bringing an engineer’s mind and problem-solving approach to every inspection and training session.

Qualifications

"Having flown many aircraft, I knew transitioning to an RV required a different skill set. I was excited to get started but wanted to do it safely and also learn the nuances. Bryan’s instruction sharpened my technique and made the transition smooth and safe. He’s got the experience and teaching skill that makes it fun!"

Testimonials

Anil Menon - RV-6A owner, physician, engineer, astronaut

“Bryan has an RV8 that is very well equipped for transition training and he has been flying it for decades. He is calm and competent and inspires confidence in his students. I had no RV experience and very little tail wheel experience and Bryan quickly prepared me for transition into my RV4. Highly recommended.”

Jeff Bertsch - RV-4 & Bonanza owner, engineer, rocket scientist

“Bryan is an exceptional flight instructor and an invaluable resource for new RV owners and pilots. He provided us with transition training when we purchased our RV-4, and he continues to support us as we operate and maintain this remarkable aircraft. I appreciate his calm, intentional approach to flight training. He listens carefully to your questions and responds in a way that aligns with your experience and understanding. With nearly 20 years of flying both professionally and recreationally, I've worked with many instructors - Bryan stands out among them. His extensive experience with Van’s RV aircraft gives him a well-informed perspective grounded in real-world knowledge. Bryan’s teaching style combines technical expertise with a playful curiosity and a sincere passion for aviation. His methodical approach and genuine enthusiasm make his instruction both effective and inspiring.”

Bill Halmon - RV-4, J-3, Stinson 108 owner, 121 airline pilot

“So glad that we finally found an RV-8 available for training. Communication with Bryan was quick and very effective. Training took place at Pearland Airport; very well suited for training. Bryan is very knowledgeable and inspiring. His experience with the -8 is very well shared with great learning potential in a relaxed setting. Beside great learning we had lots of fun. Bryan thank you so much for all the valuable lessons and sharing the passion for flying.”

Patrick van der Zijden - RV-8 owner, airline pilot B777/787, +20K hr aviation enthousiast, rotary & fixed wing; 0, 1, 2, 3 & 4 engine(s)

“I had a great experience with Bryan. It was my first time as PIC of an RV-8 and I felt right at home. Bryan is very professional from the minute you get in contact with him. Scheduling and communication was perfect. I received a documentation package in advance with technical specifications and checklists, that helped a lot in preparation for training. The preflight was great, we talked about airplane systems, flying characteristics, differences from other airplanes, emergency procedures and we confirmed our mission for the day. The post-flight meeting was just as good. I highly recommend Bryan to anyone looking for RV transition training.”
